Jason's SIV trip in Oludeniz - 2005
In May of 2005 Jason finally got to try his hand at some more interesting flying, under the watchful eye of the very professional and knowledgable Jocky Sanderson.
(Day 1) (Day 2

Day 2
21/05/2005

Arrived at Dalaman Airport at 05:35 local time. As advised in Jocky Sanderson`s litterature, I got off the plan asap to avoid the queue for the Turkish Visa which is ten quid. Walked over to baggage reclaim just as my glider arrived - great!

Outside the airport I am greated by a taxi as promised so I`m off to the hotel within ten minutes of landing. Result!

It seems the locals have a unique system for driving, they prefer to straddle the lines marking the middle of the road and only move over at the last minute when approached by oncoming traffic, very unerving. They do it on completely straight roads too! After no sleep and so many hours traveling I`m getting very tired and I start nodding off in the back of the cab. The drive from Dalaman to Olu Deniz takes an hour and I arrive at my home for the next week - The Flying Dutchman, so named because the owner (Paul) is a Dutch paraglider pilot. I`m greeted by Amir and shown to my room. Five minutes later I`m unpacked and setting my alarm for breakfast. Should be able to squeeze in 90 minutes of sleep before starting my first day of the course.

9:30 - time for breakfast: Buffet-style, simple but plenty there. Time for half an our on a sun lounger before the 11:am briefing.

Lounging by the pool I look up to see first one, then two, then three-four-five paragliders... My holiday has started, I can feel myself waking up and itching to get airborne. Chris White is the other side of the pool getting kit ready and Jocky Sanderson comes over to greet some of the pilots on his course... I think this is going to be a great holiday. Overhead 4 pilots perform smooth wingovers and spirals before disapearing behind the hotel over the road. They must be tandem pilots landing on the beach.

Morning briefing:

B-Line stall - Yank the B-lins firm and smooth and hold. Check for any turn and correct with B-lines. Release B-lines and hold hands up. Let it dive and recover without applying brakes - it will recover on its own. Do not slowly release the B-lines, do it quickly to avoid a parachutal stall.

Do another B-line stall but with more pulled down. If the gligder `claps hands` in a horse-shoe don`t worry, break and let it recover.

Do a third B-line stall but this time attempt a deep stall. Initial a B-line stall but instead of letting up quickly, slowly ease up the B-line risers untill the glider is in a stall. Gently apply brake to initial recovery.

I`ll try to get the rest of the trip written up (no promises!)
